Epidaurus & the Ancient Theatre

A remarkable UNESCO World Heritage site, Epidaurus is one of the most important archaeological destinations in Greece. Known in antiquity as the sacred sanctuary of Asclepius—the god of medicine—Epidaurus was a renowned healing center where people from across the ancient world came to seek cures and spiritual rejuvenation. The site includes temples, healing facilities, and the remains of early medical buildings that highlight the advanced understanding of wellness in ancient Greece.

The crown jewel of Epidaurus, however, is its Ancient Theatre, considered one of the finest and best-preserved classical theatres in existence. Built in the 4th century BC, it is famous for its exceptional acoustics, perfect symmetry, and elegant design. Even today, visitors can experience the remarkable clarity of sound that allows a whisper on stage to be heard in the back rows.

During the summer, the theatre hosts world-class performances as part of the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, offering a chance to witness ancient drama in its original setting—an unforgettable cultural experience.full-width
